State Senator Jeff Jackson of Mecklenburg County is announcing today that he's a candidate in the 2022 Democratic primary for US Senate.
Jackson is 38 and was just elected to his fourth term in the NC Senate. He and his wife have three small children. He is a former Gaston County prosecutor and a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve. He served in the Afghanistan war.
Former state Senator Erica Smith, who ran in the Democratic primary for US Senate last year, has also already announced for 2022, and there will probably be others, along with several Republicans including one of Trump's daughters-in-law.
Jackson has built a reputation in the NC Senate as a progressive warrior. Here he is speaking clearly on "what's wrong with politics in North Carolina."
