David Broder of the Washington Post did an interview with Sen. John Edwards, after which he wrote a column (out today) that says that if Edwards loses in South Carolina tonight (a real possibility that Edwards staff people nervously admit), he's salute John Kerry as the presumptive nominee and then "head home." (One might hope he'd actually head back to his day job, being a senator from North Carolina, with which he might have to work a little to become reacquainted.)
The Edwards campaign was hard at work this a.m., spinning that Broder column away from any notion that Edwards might actually quit the race. Story in Raleigh News & Observer.
