Foxx Won't Lift a Finger to Preserve the Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway is indisputably a major economic engine for the 5th Congressional District of North Carolina, as well as elsewhere. Almost 20 million visitors come every year and drive its two-lane blacktop and buy fuel, food, lodging, and the geegaws that gladden the tourist heart, generating almost $2.3 billion in revenue annually in North Carolina and Virginia.

Even conservative Republican Senator Dick Burr realizes its economic importance for his state. Burr has signed on as cosponsor with Sen. Kay Hagan of a 75th Parkway anniversary bill which would authorize the preservation (by purchase) of up to 50,000 acres of land along the Parkway route. Heath Shuler (NC-11) is a key sponsor of the House version of this bill.

Conspicuously missing from the House bill's list of co-sponsors are two who actually represent counties through which the Parkway passes ... Patrick McHenry (NC-10) and Virginia Foxx (NC-5).

Foxx's explanation is all rigid conservative ideology. She wouldn't spend a dime, not even to help her own constituents.

The Winston-Salem Journal scolds her in an editorial this a.m.: "...we can't afford to get behind on preserving the parkway. The recession is lifting, and resort property prices will soon resume their steady climb. We should have money for land ready so that orderly development can be balanced with preservation -- our responsibility to future generations."

She must not think the Parkway is in the same league as the teapot museum. :-[

News Flash from USA Park Service:

Yesterday! Federal Park Rangers arrested Congresswomen Foxx and two Bears who were fighting over a Buffet Gabage Dump on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Rangers said that Congresswomen Foxx was getting the best of Bears in the Fight by wacking them with Chicken Bones and a Hind leg from a dead Deer. She claim the Bears were Communists who were stealing from the Rich Tourists who travel the Parkway.

I am still trying to figure out just who she does represent...certainly not me.  Can we rid ourselves of this canker this year, please?

Not many local issues can be made state issues, but the failure to be a good steward of the Blue Ridge Parkway almost certain can.

Foxx has gone off the deep end to become a parody of a serious representative and an embarrassment to all of us in North Carolina.

Foxx is a joke. She equates no spending with fiscal responsibility. Knowing how and when to spend the money you do have is the important part of her job. On that, she is lost.

However, she has no problem spending our money on glossy publicity mailings, under the GUISE of sharing information. On that front, she is slick.

I am with Foxx on this one.  Buying/taking property is not perserving the parkway.  It is already preserved.  They need some maintenance funds.  But we don't need to add more to it.  Buying 30000 acres surrounding the parkway now will mean there will be another 50000 adjoining after you purchase the first which will lead to another and another and another.  They have enough to take care of and frankly have a hard time taking care of what they have.

If anyone has watched what has happened to the hillsides in Ashe, Jackson, Buncombe, Watauga (et al) they'd know that the resort, residential, apartment, and condominium construction has done plenty of damage already.  Foxx surprises no one in this obvious toss to the big corporate interests that fund her campaign.

The joke continues to be on the district who can't seem to get its act together and unseat this woman.

Did you know that tree topping is not a recommended practice for the health of a tree? The Town of
Boone passed an ordinance last year prohibiting tree topping as a pruning practice for all commercial
properties. Many commercial owners hire landscaping companies from outside of the area who
are unaware of this ordinance. Avoid fines as well as protect the health of your trees by ensuring
your landscaping companies are aware of this ordinance. Educational information is available at the
Planning and Development Services office.

The question I have for you W Wers is this.
Do you wish to replace her with a Blue Dog such as Heath Shuler / Larry Kissle or do we want a representative such as Alan Grayson speaking for the 5th?
By the way this progressive supports using tax money to intelligently purchase land adjoining The Blue Ridge Parkway.

I say we replace her with Billy Kennedy....he appears able to think for himself and listen to people intelligently.

I second that Opinionated!

It is totally off topic but I can't help myself. In today's New York Times is an article about a rise in christial evangelicalism and mixed martial arts (cage fighting).
1. It is not possible to make this shit up.
2. Can't the fundgelicals leave anything that is fun alone?
My favorite passage from the article:
"The goal, these pastors say, is to inject some machismo into their ministries — and into the image of Jesus — in the hope of making Christianity more appealing. “Compassion and love — we agree with all that stuff, too,” said Brandon Beals, 37, the lead pastor at <span>Canyon Creek Church</span> outside of Seattle. “But what led me to find Christ was that Jesus was a fighter.”
The outreach is part of a larger and more longstanding effort on the part of some ministers who fear that their churches have become too feminized, promoting kindness and compassion at the expense of strength and responsibility. "

RV said...

Are they saying that it is hard for a macho man to be kind and compassionate?  What rubbish!

shyster said...

RV, I refuse to interpret their words. They speak for themselves.
Since you asked, I am both macho and compassionate and I'll kick the ass of anyone who says I'm not.
PS: as a sworn officer in the grammar police I apologize for the misspelling. I hit the wrong key. "<span>christial" should, of course, be "christian."</span>
I have sentenced myself to bed without supper (sentence subject to appeal based on what we are having).

Shyster, I find it interesting that these people don't label responsibility and strength as feminine traits. Considering all the single mothers I have known, who go to school, work, and raise kids by themselves, they epitomize those virtues of strength and responsibility more than many if not most males.

shyster said...

Bridle, I refuse to argue that. My wife, mother and daughter told me to shut-the-f#@k up and agree with you.

And women can fight too!  Think about a mama bear.

And when we consider our congressional rep, the lovely lady depicted here, do the traits of compassion and kindness necessarily spring to mind? It just doesn't seem too useful to stereotype traits by gender in any case.

BikerBard said...

Bridle your point is well-made. And let's not forget intelligence as a feminine trait. Before I married my wife, I told her that if we ever had a big disagreement, one of two rules could be applied:
#1 - Women are smarter than men.
#2 - Men can be such a**holes!
This has saved a lot of aggravation in my household!

BB - Thank you for sharing your wisdom. It sounds like both of you are very lucky people!

<span>Meanwhile Federal Authorities revealed today that Congresswomen Foxx was shot by a Large Black Communist Bear when she found out that her two Cubs were maul by Congresswomen Foxx in a stuggle over the Blue Ridge Parkway Buffet Gabage dump. Federal Authorities said this was a direct result of Congresswomen Foxx passage of the "Citizens could armed themselves on Federal Park Park property."</span>

<span>No problem! It's a on going battle to bring retarded Republicans up to Speed on recent Hunting trips gone wild on the Parkway! I understand Congresswomen Foxx has set up a Tent on the Parkway and declared it property of the new nation of Western North Carolina and will start a new sales tax on all dead Communist Bears bought to her.</span>

The article on Virginia Foxx failing to protect 50,000 acres along the Blue Ridge Parkway is insightful.  I believe Virginia Foxx is dodging the issue after she let down folk in Blowing Rock over the land trade there.  Foxx realizes that Brad Smith in Wilkesboro is going to be hot on her heels this fall, and she is "buttoning up" in hopes of people forgetting her crooked ways.  One thing is for sure - Virginia Foxx and Aaron Whitener will have their hands full with angry right wingers who feel betrayed by her as well as those that already knew she was corrupt.

Come on, Inquiring Mind, not wanting to protect more acres along the BRP b/c they can't keep up the ones they own now is like saying we shouldn't fight any more wars because we haven't been able to win the ones we are fighting now...oh wait, federal tax dollars are going to go way up again for the military, they think if we give them more money they can get the job done.  Wonder why we can't apply that kind of thinking to the National Park Service?  And guess which kind of spending Va. Foxx favors and which she opposes? LOL
