As expected, the N.C. Baptist State Convention voted this a.m. to excommunicate congregations "that affirm or approve of homosexuality," thus enacting "one of the most rigid anti-gay policies among the nation's Christian churches."

Seventeen churches in North Carolina affiliated with the Alliance of Baptists will come "under immediate scrutiny."
