"I strongly support and endorse Mrs. Springer as my successor because our community cannot afford an inexperienced District Attorney," Wilson said in a written statement, signaling what he thought of Nathan Miller without actually naming him. The rest of Wilson's statement gets more specific about how he thinks Miller isn't the man for the job.
Thunderdome! Two Republicans enter. One Republican leaves.

Is it just a coincidence that Jerry Wilson decided to retire after Nathan Miller announced he was running?
No matter who wins this next time, it will certainly be an improvement over what we have had with Wilson as DA. Just ask the ASU sexual assault victims!
Isn't there some other place where Mr. Miller can continue to suck at the public teat? The people like him who say they hate government (Ms. Foxx?) sure push to the head of that line.
A disaster as county commission chair and rejected by his own party for DA, unsuitable for animal control officer, what about deed register? That way he can consolidate his family's real estate holdings. He looks athletic (ha ha) so maybe assistant to the assistant to the Director of Parks and Rec? There has to be some position where he can cause so much damage, but I can't think what it is.
With the election more than a year away, I think I will wait for the Democrat candidate before I jump on ANY Republican bandwagon!
"Two Republicans enter, one leaves," is called a primary, not "Thunder Dome."
Jerry Wilson is not the Republican party. He has largely been an embarrassment to them. He had the reputation of being one of the worst DA's in the state, but the Democrats still could not beat him. What does that tell you?
Who cares what Wilson thinks?
I have to stick up for Wilson here!
Wilson was not considered the worst DA in the state. At least not while Mike Nifong was Durhams DA!
Who cares what Wison thinks? Might want to ask Miller why he tried in vain to get Wisons support. Sounds like sour grapes to me. Miller has zero experience and has to throw dirt to try and distract the voters from the truth.
The arguments are always the most heated when the stakes are so low.
It really isn't news that Jerry is retiring. The Yancey County News newspaper interviewed him in January and reported in a front page story way back then that he would not seek re-election. So there is no 'coincidence' about the announcement; Miller heard that Wilson was retiring months ago by reading a newspaper.
