What Happened Here?

The sale of the old Watauga High School, according to the reporting of Jesse Wood, appears to have been manipulated to favor friends/clients of the Miller & Johnson law firm, of which County Commission Chair Nathan Miller is a member. At least, that's the way it looks.

Yes, how crooked of those Republicans to take the highest offer. And to get Jim Deal to go along with them is just shameless!

'Nothing new here.

What happened back in the time period of 2005-2008 pertaining to a previous BOC chair?

They got the property SOLD, which is more than the other majority was able to do in five years.

It stunk! Wreaked of cronyism. Nathan Miller was about to explode trying to push it through so that his father, who represents the realtor, Rick Miller, (with the lower bid originally) would get his part of the hefty $1.7m commission). He wanted to ram it through without any of the commissioners having even read the offer. Said he didn't need to read it to vote. He should have recused himself from the vote since he stood to gain personally from it. The 2nd, surprise, higher (unread) offer was not considered (I know the realtor who was shaking his head in disgust). They recessed overnight to read the thing and create counter offers. The Miller offer was increased and accepted. The 2nd offer is the only reason why our county got another million dollars for the property. Just amazing and ugly how this came to pass! As I said IT STINKS!

Oh, yes, just the same situation six, seven years ago with a former BOC chair.

That stunk too!
