I recently read a very good book on the issue of civic responsibilities. The importance of a prosperous "middle class" as the primary engine of a healthy and sustainable economy is driven home with clarity and a "long view" vision by the authors.
The book? "The Gardens of Democracy" by Eric Liu and Nick Hanauer.
Socio-economic justice in general, and equitable tax policy in particular, are a consistent theme in the book. A timely book to say the least.
