What Fear Sounds Like

"It's really important for us not to give any legitimacy to these people in the streets. I remember what happened in the 1960s when the left-wing took to the streets, and somehow the media glorified them and it ended up shaping policy. We can't allow that to happen." -- Congressman Peter King (R), on the Laura Ingraham radio show, Oct. 7, 2011

Heh, sounds like what you've been saying about the Tea Partiers for the past two years.

Or the most overrated, meaningless cliche of cliches:

"The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

I can assure you that I am not remotely afraid of the neo-bolsheviks and their giant temper-tantrum for more free goodies. Socialism produces only poverty and want, it doesn't alleviate them. Once the looters have carried off the stolen goods and ransacked the banks and corporations, who then is going to give them a job?

Stogie,

You don't get it, do you? The object is not to improve the lives of anyone. That is simply an excuse to gain public support. The object is to remove the Constitution. As long as the Constitution is in place, it acts as a first line of defense against tyranny.

I play online video games. In one particular game, you frequently assemble five players to act as a group, and players select their teams according to needs. A five player team consists of a tank, a healer, and three to do maximum damage to enemies. The tank doesn't do too much damage... that is not his role. His job is to attract the attention of any enemies, and to withstand massive amounts of damage with no ill effects while the others eliminate the threat.

That is what our Constitution is, our tank. The Marxists who run these protests have bitten off more than they can chew by trying to take the United States. Our system is genius, if you think about it. We hardly have to lift a finger to beat back the Bolsheviks, as our Constitution takes the brunt of their assault and renders them impotent and vulnerable, every time.

Do not fear. They can only hide their intentions, pretend that they have not yet developed their platform, for so long. And when they do, all we have to do is vote, and they will be forced to ooze back into the crevasses where we force our tyrant lovers to dwell. And hey, if the vote thing doesn't work, our Constitution has also provided us with several million good-old-boys with guns and trigger fingers that get itchy when they hear the word "Communist". Cheers! :-)

Mike D. I don't see the words communist or capitalist anywhere in the constitution. What I do see is the phrase " promote the general welfare" once in the preamble and "provide for the... general welfare" in Article 1, section 8. Sounds more like socialism than capitalism to me.

Brushfire,

At least you are honest about your desires.

Mike, Damn straight I am. I want this to be a country where every baby born is loved, wanted, cared for, well fed, housed, and educated. I want every person to have honest well paid work available if they want it. I want a man or a woman to be able to support a modest size family by working 40 hours a week, at any honest job. I want a country where every person has access to free, decent health care. I want a country where the environment is safe, air and water are clean, and our life style is sustainable for generations. I want a country that invests its resources in scientific research, clean energy, and infrastructure instead of war. That sounds like "general welfare" to me. How do you interpret general welfare?

Brushfire,

You think Marxism will do these things for us all?

Mike - What do you mean by "Marxism? You are using that as the boogyman. How about Thomas Painism? He is the founding father who first advocated for a tax on wealthy estates to create a social security fund for every one. Ever read Agrarian Justice?
