Cunningham and Majeed |
Sure enough (and
of course!) two of the (former) members of the NC House Democratic Caucus, Carla Cunningham and Nasif Majeed, joined all the Republicans in overriding Governor Stein's veto of a bill that will commit North Carolina to participating in the federal school voucher program authorized by President Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill. Reps. Cunningham and Majeed had changed their registrations to Unaffiliated after they lost their primaries in March to fellow Democrats who had promised to be more loyal to Democratic Party values. Cunningham and Majeed had participated already with the Republicans in veto overrides prior to today, and had suffered as a result their estrangement from the NC Democratic Party, which cut off data and other resources.
Majeed had originally voted against the measure that he decided today was just fine with him.
A third Democratic House member targeted for his previous footsy with the Republicans, Shelly Willingham, was also defeated in his March primary but did not change his party affiliation. He took the more cowardly route today of simply missing the veto-override session.

It shames me adding to this degraded debate. But we must discuss the Thucidydes Trap. The United States will be 250 in 6 weeks and is about to fall into one. Above we have two humbled legislators piling into a throwback degradation in order to prolong inconsequential degenerate careers. Why should the general public be assessed for miseducation contrary to general welfare?
Obviously a uniform public education is advantageous to both Parties(R&D) if they believe the USA can triumph in this Overshot world. I don't kid myself we have democracy as Wolf's Head does. It seems sick and ironic that this person
can be dedicated to winning and at the same time to sabotaging unity.
Are we not at war with China, Russia, Iran, Cuba, Greenland and most other
foreign countries? Seems there would be no better time to stick together.
What happened to Athens in their hubris was that they were defeated at Syracuse and the few surviving veterans came home to a ruined city carrying a plague. Knowing this history
might prompt us to be more cautious and less careless, but it seems that
the wealthy overlords prefer over-extension and profitable war. It won't matter
what children are taught just before collapse. A corrupt cabal controls our government. They are eager to re-attack Iran again and again if stocks and gas prices can be manipulated. Even their opponents (Ds) would pile on for profit
in the short run. A crazy clown thinks he can survive by turning the White House into a fallout shelter. Hitler's bunker couldn't save him either. Thucydides wrote that pet dogs ate plague corpses and carried disease home after defeat.
Imagine Iran (with many allies) being able to impose reparations on top of that.

No, I don't think we have a democracy, yet.
We have a Constitutional Republic, which means the government is supposed to be OUR servant, not the other way around. However, corruption, greed, lust, stupidity and just plain evil has taken hold at all levels of government.
Democracy is desired by some as a sort of talisman, an ideal that supposedly would right all wrongs, but in truth it would unleash even more horrors as the 51% majority takes control without restraint of a constitution or a republic, or even the constraints of morality or common sense.
Socialism, or communist lite, is worse as it has a long record of murder and corruption. (National Socialist German Workers Party ring a bell?)
My long held belief is that the US will fail, as nothing created by man is perfect.
I also believe that we are as close to a civil war as we were in 1860.
A few minutes ago, dozens of shots were fired at the White House, where the President is meeting with his top officials about the Iran war. the story is still unfolding but one report said multiple shooters were involved.
Yesterday, news reports said Trump's daughter Ivanka was targeted for assassination by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The attempted assassination of Trump in Butler, PA would have, in my opinion, have started a civil war right then if it had succeeded.
I've lived long enough to see a President assassinated (Probably from elements of his own government) Seen a renowned civil rights leader assassinated (probably the same folks were responsible) and seen a presidential candidate assassinated as well (Yeah, same agency.) And that agency is still around. One of its members was recently elected governor of Virginia.
But as RH notes, this is not the same country as then. We are not the same people as then.
Many, many democrats have expressed their desire openly for the President to be killed.
