Last Thursday, August 14, the Texas House Democratic Caucus issued a statement from exile announcing they would return home on two conditions. First, that the special session called by the governor to scratch a Trump itch end, which it was calendared to do anyway by statute the following day, on Friday, August 15. (Gov. Whatsit says he will immediately call another special session, and the Texas Democrats both know that and accept their inevitable fate, because after all their theatrics did focus the popular imagination on political corruption and actually sparked Gavin Newsom's current brilliant satire of Jethro and just incidentally supplied the Texans' second condition for returning home: That California lawmakers introduce Gov. Newsom's proposal to redraw the map of California to add precisely five more Democrats to the US Congress.
Trolling, they call it. I prefer the more ancient term satire, "the use of humor, irony, exaggeration, or ridicule to expose and criticize people's stupidity or vices." Remember that Trump was touted as an addition to Mt. Rushmore, a ridiculous honor that the man could admit he deserved. Here's Newsom's mirror:

Retaking Congress at this point would have minimal effect for the American majority riding down the Austerity vortex. If Newsome or similar were elected to replace Trump policy could not change drastically because this would remain a "competitive authoritarianism" ; that is, a foregone upshift in wealth to the <1%. Trump considers himself part of that demographic, and so is focused on "getting a piece" , as he always has been. Sadly, Trump personifies the decline of the US Empire. As long as the USA pursues an agenda of world dominance (fighting everyone and tariffing/sanctioning to serve business interests over human need) our rations are gonna shrink. The worst waste has always been militarism (Everybody from Smedley Butler and Dwight Eisenhower on down admitted it, even JFK on a good day.) Gavin is not a friend of the people who do the hard, necessary work, because he would be framed or assassinated if he were (Bernie and Warren aren't either.) In any popularity contest (elections?) they could not question Market Determinism nor share ideas for egalitarian redistribution and serious fair trade, lest they be called
traitors. (Traitors to their funders who possess most assets and franchises)
When the European stateheads came carrying Zelinsky to Washington, they too represented the same Oligarchy. As far as I can tell the Elites have always dominated from before the beginning of the USA. People are too distracted by sports and celebrity to assert their real interests, because they see the fascist takeover of DC as the mildest possible reaction of the "cardholders." (Party politics provides no salvation in a collapsing environment. Just another distraction.)
