Among the many other ExecOrders (EOs) that Trump signed Monday, he erased tax credits for electric-vehicle (EV) purchases, he ended federal grants for chargers, and he shitcanned subsidies and loans to help retool assembly lines for EVs and to build battery factories -- a sweeping repudiation, in other words, of a centerpiece of Joe Biden's multibillion-dollar Inflation Reduction Act to address climate change by limiting what comes out of your tailpipe. Who knows if these backward and malicious EOs can survive legal challenges.
Those EOs also (just incidentally) penalize American automakers that have invested billions in designing and building electric vehicles. The Biden administration had encouraged them to. They are now collateral damage to Trump's determination to stamp out even the memory of the man who beat him in 2020.
According to the NYTimes, Trump's orders "could cause U.S. carmakers to fall behind ... Asian and European automakers .... Already, 50 percent of car sales in China are electric or plug-in hybrids, and Chinese automakers like BYD are selling more cars around the world, taking customers away from established car companies, including American manufacturers."
The oil and gas guys are obviously very happy with Trump. Elon Musk on the other hand went very quiet, which makes one wonder. According to Jack Ewing, "There is no sign that Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla) is using his influence to blunt the attack on electric vehicles. Tesla accounts for slightly less than half the electric cars sold in the United States, and almost all its vehicles qualify for $7,500 tax credits .... analysts note that Tesla’s sales and profits would be hit hard if Mr. Trump successfully repealed or truncated the electric-vehicle tax credit, California’s clean-air waiver and other such policies. Tesla did not respond to a request for comment."
Odd. Maybe there's an angle for Musk I'm not seeing, or he's way too obsessed with the Conquest of Mars.

This shows why government must NEVER get involved in favoring industry based on political dogma. It causes misallocation of CAPITOL, wasted money and time. Billions wasted on electric vehicles and infrastructure, and billions spent on the Keystone pipeline, both destroyed by executive fiat.
Free markets and free folk are the only efficient way to advance humanity.
There are no free folk nor free markets in the United States.
It is now a kakistocracy dominated by billionaire oligarchs (tech billies).
The Libertarian ideology professed by Anonymous is an embarrassing anachronism, now used mostly to reinforce elite property rights and
keep necessary workers under totalitarian political control.
The wealth gap is proof of these conditions.
Precarity, austerity, non-representation and the sorry mental and physical
condition of most citizens provides damning confirmation.
While electric cars could hardly save our collapsing environment alone
they are an admission of global warming and a gesture toward better,
more comprehensive emergency reduction of fossil fuel industry that could have a positive effect. As Sec. Gen. Antonio Guterrez was warning today in
Davos: "The world's addiction to fossil fuels has become an all-consuming 'Frankenstein monster' imperiling hopes of a livable future. All around us, we see clear signs that the monster has become master. We just endured the hottest year and the hottest decade in history."
So we certainly can't tolerate denial and backwardness any longer.
No matter how far back in the sticks preppers hide,
extreme weather and temperatures are on their way.
As for Musk and EV subsidies, I've seen Musk say they should be stopped, and for a simple reason. He now has a huge and established market share and these subsidies are now more advantageous to his new competitors than to Tesla.
It was worth helping TRUMP to get elected just to read Red Hornets ravings. It's satisfying to know millions of lefties are totally losing their shit at what Trump does to help free Americans from the oppressive government both parties had created.
Cry harder!!!!!
I can't hear you!
Cry harder!!!!
Wolfie, it's frankly concerning that an intellectual libertarian such as yourself would applaud the looting of the Commonwealth, unless you stand to get your own beak wet. The guy you're so enthusiastic about is coddling billionaires by freeing them from "the oppressive government" as you call it) so they can grab more of everything for themselves, not for you. You strike me as an earnest and naive chump.
"Looting of the Commonwealth"? We are a Constitutional Republic, NOT a commonwealth.
I cheer freedom and capitalism, common sense, civilization and justice. As for grabbing more for themselves, who is greedier? The entrepreneur who CREATES wealth or those who are incapable of creating wealth because of lack of intellect, laziness, indoctrination or foolishness, and because of their jealousy and greed seek to take what others have made. That is the whole reason for the existence of the left, to take freedom and wealth and either destroy it outright or give it to others who support the left's will to use force to feed their greed, while always taking a huge cut for themselves.
As for wetting my own beak, I want to create and keep what I earn with my limited abilities honestly, morally without harming anyone.
So, yeah, guess I'm a chump. You've called me worse. But in the end, TRUMP is PRESIDENT, and he is coming for you and all the lefties by destroying your influence in the world and allowing people to be free.
"so they can grab more of everything for themselves, not for you. You strike me as an earnest and naive chump."
I read that and it is a perfect example of a fatal flaw in leftist philosophy.
THE PIE.
That belief that wealth is finite and therefore the 'Enlightened Elites' are the only ones wise enough to divide the pie for all mankind.
Total bullshit.
You believe that if Musk, Bezos, Zuckerberg or Gates become wealthy it MUST be because they have stolen it from the masses. WRONG. They all created something that people want or needed out of nothing. They used their imagination, skills, intellect and hard work to create something new and desirable, and folks voluntarily gave them money for it. Lots and lots of money, without using force.
Entrepreneurs become wealthy by helping mankind, who reward them for it.
Wealth CAN be created. It CAN benefit everyone by creating what folks want or need.
The key is to make more pies, rather than forcing people to fight over the scraps you leave them.
Old mangy hound dog, trying to howl like a wolf.
All billionaires are scammers and beneficiaries of government contracts and skewed regulations. They are cloud rentiers.
Earning a piece of the pie would require labor at a reasonable hourly rate,
not gambling in a rigged casino. It is true I am not a capitalist nor capital supporter, but what is happening is certainly not capitalism as conceived
by economic theorists.
BRAVO! RH FINALLY GETS IT!
"but what is happening is certainly not capitalism as conceived by economic theorists."
YES! What we have is a government/corporate collaboration to enrich both sides at the expense of the masses! RFK Jr has spoken about this and how it affects our food and medicines.
Obama started using corporate collaborators to further his social agendas that he could enforce by law. Example: Biden couldn't order citizens to take the jab, but employers could mandate it.
Well done, RH!
Every politician has an agenda. The question is, who does that agenda help? If the agenda adversely impacts the poor or middle class to the benefit of the millionaires, then I'll fight against that agenda wherever and whenever I'm able to.
