David and/or Dan Soucek and Jonathan Jordan can sit back and relax, because it turns out that Art Pope (through his puppets at the John Locke Foundation) has already written a detailed budget for North Carolina.
Going through it you'll notice some obvious main targets: public education; help for the poor, the weak, the ill; alternative energies; anything dealing with cultural, historical, or environmental enhancements.
The Art Pope Budget recommends zeroing out the NC Arts Council, the NC Symphony, the NC Council for Women, the Human Relations Commission, the Martin Luther King Commission, the Commission on Indian Affairs, and the Youth Involvement Office. Most of these are axed as "advocacy."
Art Pope and his puppets have a HUGE chip on their shoulders about alternative energies, especially wind and solar, so the State Energy Office is a major target, and more specifically the energy research at ASU would be cut from the state budget and transferred to the UNC budget (the message: if energy research is so important, let UNC decide how much to spend on it).
The Pope Budget would end all appropriations for the NC Arboretum and for Public Television.
The Pope Budget would raise the student/teacher ratio in public schools and raise tuition at our community colleges and public universities.
Art Pope and his toadies have plenty of money. And the poor can always beg. It's natural law.
Hmm...Let's think on this, Pope is one of four BOD's of American's for Prosperity, the front group of the billionaire oil Barron Koch brothers.
ReplyDeleteWonder why Pope and friends don't want wind or other alternative energies in North Carolina...
OH? I get it, it's oil and oil is liquid goal... to Beverly Hills we go with Pope's idiots driving.
This is from the 2009 session so expect something from them in January with cuts for the 2011 budget.
ReplyDeleteWe knew it was coming~and our two GOPer bobbleheads in Raleigh who owe their seats to Pope money--guess how they will vote on bills like these? Just heard that the first major utterance coming out from the current minority leader is that it is time to let the people vote on amending the state constitution to outlaw same sex marriage. So there you are, the real agenda of the TPers is the same ol' "family values" BS they SAID was not the issue this time around.
ReplyDeleteGotta get that boycott going.
ReplyDeleteJames
Mike D, where are you? You said in an earlier thread to Matt that if Soucek and/or Jordan were going to push for a same sex amendment, you were going to call them and demand that they get to the "real work" of gutting government. Please see brotherdoc's comment above and report back to us how Soucek and Jordan responded.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling prescient. The day after the election, I said we'd never see another road paved up here after June (when this budgetary year ends) and we'd see teacher/pupil ratios like those in Georgia (32 kids in a Kindergarten class with no T.A.)....the main reason we moved here to raise our family.
ReplyDeleteLooks like both are coming true.
You have to wonder how the money Art Pope allegedly spent was so much more effective than the money Cullie Tarleton spent?
ReplyDeleteCullie had about 5 times as much money for his campaign as Jonathon Jordan did.....But Jordan won.
Some of the biggest 'spenders' in these campaigns were SEIU and other Unions.....no outrage about that? Don't you think the teachers union is a "special interest"...
Or, is it ok if the 'special interest' is one which you agree with?
EVERY SINGLE REPUBLICAN in legislative races in this district won this year. And, you guys think its ALL because Art Pope spent a lot of money? Do you really think that all these voters are just naive and that you 'elites' here are the ones who know best?
Come on people! Wake up! Voters are tired of Democrat tax and spend policies. They have expressed their opinions with this election. Give them SOME credit for knowing what they want in THEIR government.
I thought the whole idea of protestants was to rid themselves of Popes. Well you just voted for one, let me introduce him, Art Pope, owner of the NC legislature...Dimestore king extraordinaire
ReplyDeleteheaven help us all...
