Senator Richard Burr is actually Number 2 on the list of US senators bought off by the National Rifle Association = $6,986,620, either direct donations or expenditures to benefit Burr.
Senator Thom Tillis is Number 4 = $4,418,012.
Both Burr and Tillis are pious hypocrites. After the Las Vegas slaughter, Burr issued this statement: “My heart is with the people of Las Vegas and their first responders today. This morning’s tragic violence has absolutely no place here in America.”
Tillis matched Burr, crocodile tear for crocodile tear: “Susan and I send our deepest condolences and prayers to the families of the victims of this horrific and senseless tragedy in Las Vegas.”
Four million bucks buy a lot of prayers, eh, Senator Tillis?
Jim Morrill explains why Burr and Tillis got those millions -- MILLIONS! -- of dollars from the NRA: http://www.newsobserver.com/news/politics-government/state-politics/article177044206.html
ReplyDeleteBoth those senators' last elections were considered do-or-die contests for controlling the Senate, and the NRA does nothing else as well as controlling the Senate.
The NRA, like all the other lobbies, donates money to those candidates who best reflect their own views. Sort of like the teachers union does on the Democrat side.
ReplyDeleteWhen organizations donate to our candidates, it's a "contribution"...but, when they donate to opposition candidates, those candidates are said to have been "bought off".
I support the NRA and I expect them to use my money to influence legislation (and legislatures) who support the second amendment.
