100 New Taxes Proposed by the Republican NC Senate
Phil Berger's "Tax Fairness Act" (HEE-HA!) would add 100 new services subject to sales taxes, putting the burden on working-class North Carolinians, while lifting the tax burden on the wealthy and on corporations.
People on the lower end of the income spectrum usually pay little or no income tax, but they will certainly pay a LOT in sales tax, since they spend most of their income on goods (like food). This is yet another way to give the rich a break while shifting the burden onto the middle and lower classes.
Hey the Repugs in Raleigh have already raised the tax on about 1 million North Carolinians by doing away with earned income credit. That's one million working poor.
How much will it cut their over all tax payments considering income tax?
ReplyDeletenone: earned income credit is gone too, so the one percentage point drop in income tax is window dressing.
