Froth Meets Substance?

Interesting analysis from the North Carolina Free Enterprise Foundation, which ain't no Democratic group:
In Senate District 45, Sen. Dan Soucek (R-Watauga) toppled an incumbent Democrat in 2010, but the district looks very different this time and includes populous Caldwell County, which is home to former Rep. George Robinson (R-Caldwell), who is facing Sen. Soucek in the primary. This race has largely flown under the radar this primary season, but don't be surprised if this contest is closer than many expect.

Wouldn't that be a kick in the old pantaloons!

The primary may be close.....but the general election will just be a humiliation for Dems.

So when a Republican wins in a heavily Republican district, it's a humiliation for Democrats? Geez.

Pay attention, The point is the Democrats will lose no matter who the Republican is in the genera.

The only news I've seen about this race is in the Avery Journal:

As freshman N.C. Sen. Dan Soucek (District 45) leads the charge in support of Amendment One (“marriage amendment”), he must defend his seat from George S. Robinson, a challenger with 20 years experience in state government

  6. George Robinson is exponentially more qualified than Soucek in every way imaginable. In a Democratically controlled legislature, he was able to work across the aisle to get things done for Caldwell County. I know that's out of vogue these days. I can't believe anyone who's ever met Soucek would vote for him. There is absolutely NOTHING there. When I met him, he couldn't list the committees he serves on.

So, in,other words, Robinson is a RINO.

Thanks for the info. I'll vote for Soucek.

George Robinson is a wealthy career, professional politician. That's out of vogue these days!? Good grief, that's part of the problem. We've had too much of that kind for too long.

    I'll take the non-professional, part-time legislator anytime.

Even when he is an idiot? Nice.

We had a non-professional, hard-working legislator....Art Pope bought the seat our from under him for his boy Soucek 2 years ago.

Too bad Cullie couldn't buy his seat back with the HALF MILLION dollars he had in his war chest. The highest of any state legislator candidate! But, people looked at Cullie's record and said "enough is enough!"

Cullie wasn't running against Soucek. We had a hard-working regular guy in Steve Goss. He was not a 'career politician.' The mailers and ads that were sent out against Goss and Tarleton were ridiculous and bordering on libelous.

Too bad you aren't as critical of the flyers the democrats put out attacking Soucek.
"Demolition Dan" ...said the flyer....claiming that Soucek wanted to take over private property under eminent domain and convert it for other private commercial use.

This was the opposite of his position...and opposite of what he has done. But, I don't hear any of you complaining about the lies told against him? Wonder why?

I also remember posters on Watauga Watch claiming that he never was promoted beyond second Lt. while in the army. Fact is, he made Captain....but that lie doesn't bother you.

Goss was not a bad person. He wasn't very effective and he was part of the liberal legislature that the citizens of NC had grown sick of. Cullie was equally ineffective when it came to delivering what the voters in his district want. He was well funded and had the Raleigh Dems support but the people said "enough is enough!"

Goss was extremely effective - and every citizen who contacted him with a problem was personally helped. I have never seen a harder-working legislator.

  16. Anonymous is repeating the 2010 assertions re: Goss and Tarleton, having learned nothing by the experience of the past 2 years' screwups of governance by the GOPer-dominated legislature. Let's face it, Goss and Tarleton, hardworking and sincere legislators who kept their consituents well informed, were blindsided by outside agitators who flooded their districts with irrelveant smears and innuendoes, misleading mailers, and well-funded, deceptive push polling. This pattern was repeated statewide by the Art Pope machine, and nationally by the Koch-funded ALEC. What have they done with their majority? Can anyone trace any progress in our state to their track record?

I wasn't aware of any flyers that were put out against Soucek. Was that in 2010 or during his previous campaign against Tarleton? And yes, a few posters on a small blog like WataugaWatch is exactly the same as a millionaire buying ads and blanketing the state with them! Goss and Tarleton were both hard-working legislators who kept their constituents informed and they also answered my emails that I sent to them. Soucek has a Facebook page that he hasn't updated in months, and he has never answered a single message that I have sent to him. He is NOT working for his constituents!

The NC Democratic party put out the "Demolition Dan" attack ad in the 2010 election. Complete misstatement of Soucek's position intended only to confuse the voters.

So...Soucek doesn't update his Facebook page? Wow! That's sure a good reason to vote against him!

My suggestion to you all is that you better get used to him...he's going to be sent back to Raleigh by a large majority!

"So...Soucek doesn't update his Facebook page? Wow! That's sure a good reason to vote against him!"

I didn't say that was my only reason for voting against him. There are many reasons, but this one just exemplifies the kind of Senator he has been. Why does a politician even have a Facebook page if he isn't going to update it?

Soucek is an empty suit, who also comes across as empty-headed. So there was one flyer sent out against him? There was a new one out every other day, it seemed like, trashing Goss and Tarleton. Their positions were also completely misstated in an attempt to confuse the voters! Were you OK with those?

Soucek is far from an empty suit. Witness his impact on the election today.
