The 2012 Elections. Despite calling for bipartisanship and for politicians to forget the consequences of their actions on the next election cycle, Obama's visit has a lot to do with 2012. "By coming to North Carolina, he's also identifying the importance of North Carolina as a swing state," said Kathy Smith, a political science professor at Wake Forrest University. Obama was the first Democratic presidential candidate to win North Carolina since President Jimmy Carter, and appearing here early is a sign that he intends to try and repeat the feat.
Good luck with that, Mr. President. If Bill Clinton -- who actually knew how to negotiate with Republicans -- couldn't do it, we have our doubts about your chances. Especially as you've mainly worked to lose your base in this state. Independent voters are not much impressed by weakness.
BTW: Being mentioned in the same sentence with Jimmy Carter is more than just merely awkward positioning.
I just hope that all these people who post on here will finally acknowledge that this site DOES criticize Obama frequently. To dream the impossible dream.....
ReplyDeletebettywhite: When observations contradict paradigms, the paradigms win. It's a phenomenon called denial. You see it frequently in alcoholics and conservatives.
ReplyDeleteit's funny when even Obama is not far enough left for this site. Most of you would be satisfied only with Marx.
ReplyDeleteLeft Wing Amazement,
ReplyDeleteNo one will take you seriously until you update your seriously out of date symbols. Seriously, Marx? Groucho or Harpo?
You'd draw a little more blood if you said "Most of you would be satisfied only with ... Howard Dean!"
I don't blame you personally for the lameness of your attack. I blame the American educational system and (especially) American cable TV. And all that corn syrup you've been consuming from Wal-Mart.
If he was talking about Henery....I suspect it would be Harpo...or maybe Zeppo.
ReplyDeleteIf he was talking about the more 'average' poster here, he is pretty close to the truth. You guys are so left leaning that you won't be happy without cradle to grave government care for yourselves!
That is such a broad-brush exaggeration, 2012 is coming, and you know it. No one thinks in those terms. I am as liberal as they come, and I don't want "the government" taking care of me from cradle to grave. I go to work every day, pay my bills, and pay my taxes just like millions of other liberals. Do you think all of those senior citizens are mooching off the government with their Social Security and Medicare? How about the mentally disabled? How about kids on Medicaid? To me, one of the defining characteristics of a "conservative" is complete lack of empathy. You can't imagine that you might someday need the services that you want to deny to other people.
ReplyDeleteLet's remember that Social Security and Medicare are insurance programs into which we have all paid. We mustn't buy into the conservative paradigm that somehow they are "government giveaways".
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't buy into the conservative ideas about SS and Medicare. I was just wondering if 2012 is Coming did......
