The Salvation Army homeless shelter in Charlotte, designed to hold 180 women and children, is currently housing 254. That's only the tip of that particular iceberg. "Social workers estimate that 5,000 people in Charlotte on any given night live on the streets, in shelters, or doubled up with friends and relatives."
