Madam Virginia Foxx (Republicana conservatissimus) is out in this a.m.'s W-S Journal panning El Presidente's speech for not going far enough. Well how far would YOU go, Madam? "I would like to have had the president say English should be the official language," Foxx said. "Then when someone -- an illegal -- was overheard speaking Spanish, we could deport him. Case closed. Language is the clearest and the quickest way to identify an undesirable."
Well, okay, she didn't actually utter the second part of that, but in her zeal to play to the lowest common denominator, she certainly thought it.
