Social Engineering, the Foxx Way

On March 20, 2010, Rep. Virginia Foxx called health-insurance reform (what she otherwise always refers to as "Obamacare") "one of the most offensive pieces of social engineering legislation in the history of the United States."

On May 5 of this year, Foxx strutted her stuff in a tweet: "Yesterday the House passed a permanent ban on taxpayer-funded abortion .... I voted in favor."

By which she means that the new Republican majority in the U.S. House has taken steps to prohibit any poor woman on Medicaid with a big problem from getting an abortion.

How come that's not social engineering, of the grossest, most intrusive kind?

She's against social engineering except when it's Right Wing politicians doing the specs.

For the rich and powerful, there are safe legal abortions, for the poor, coathangers.

what I heard was that her parents tried unsuccessfully to abort her with a coat hanger. That's why she's so against it. Plus, Republicans hate privacy rights, especially for poor people.

Good job Ms. Foxx. As someone has stated, if the libs on this blog speak ill of you, you are on the right track.

You know what, Anonymous, I dislike the woman and disagree with virtually everything she stands for but I think your comment about her is disgusting and beyond the pale. Your liberty to say such things anonymously is precisely why I strongly disagree with Jerry's on-again policy of allowing totally anonymous comments on this blog. Say that with some ID.

That darned Teahadist dropped by and said...

Brotherdoc,

I respect your sentiment, but do you really think that putting a name to speech like that of Anonymous 7:47 makes it okay?

Darned, I do think if some name or ID is attached to a person's comments it makes him/her think a little more carefully before ranting wildly about whatever matter is at hand. That applies to people from both ends of the political spectrum. I may be wrong but in the end we all have to just get along (and you might be wrong too).

Well said, brotherdoc. I disagree with most of what Foxx does but that comment was totally inappropriate.

Another annoying thing about all the anonymous comments is it's impossible to tell if you're having a dialogue with one "Anonymous" or several different people.

I can see it now - some industrious political action group is going to start selling VIRGINIA FOXX COATHANGERS, donating the funds to her opponent in the next election. The coathangers, of course would be a common wire model with a banner stuck to it that says "ABORT REPUBLICAN MADNESS".

With more important issues like the economy, spending time and money on issues like this is just downright stupid. I haven't particularly paid much attention to politics before, but the actions of Foxx and others like her is making me want to open up my wallet and give my time to get them out of office.
