Rep. Virginia Foxx, U.S. Congress, N.C. 5th District (Republican):
"I don't think members of Congress incite that kind of rhetoric -- I don't think the things we say incite that kind of behavior. And I don't know that the things other people say incite it. I just think we have deranged individuals in this country and occasionally they do bad things.
"This guy appears to be a communist. His beliefs are the liberal of the liberals. There is no evidence whatsoever that this man was influenced by Sarah Palin or anybody in the Republican Party. This man is not a conservative; he's a fan of communism -- that's the opposite of conservatism.
"The members of Congress, we put ourselves out there, and we're willing to take whatever risk there is, but it is so sad that this involved innocent people. We never want anyone else to be harmed because of our positions."

I'm speechless
"I just think we have deranged individuals in this country and occasionally they do bad things."
Ms Foxx is correct in the above statement.
The conservative right has played to these deranged individuals hyping their fears and hate for profit and political power.
The Anne Coulters, Rush, Beck Newt, Fox Fear and Hate media and the NRA just to give a few examples.
Ms Fox can continue to lie but she has played to these deranged individuals herself.
I just heard an interesting report on NPR. Heith Shuler just said he was going to take advantage of his concealed carry permit, especially when he travels to the mountain counties. As I have never heard him being degraded in a violent manner except on Watauga Watch, congratulations. The hate on this site has finally had some influence.
"That Scott down there that's running for governor of Florida," Mr. Kanjorski said. "Instead of running for governor of Florida, they ought to have him and shoot him. Put him against the wall and shoot him. He stole billions of dollars from the United States government and he's running for governor of Florida. He's a millionaire and a billionaire. He's no hero. He's a damn crook. It's just we don't prosecute big crooks."
Mike D., you never cease to amaze me. Yes, there are some quotes from liberals like the one you posted. But there is absolutely no comparison to the avalanche of venom that comes out of the right wing every single day. Everything that President Obama and Congress tried to do over the last two years was automatically labeled as "tyrannical," "socialist," "un-American," or any number of other extreme terms. The left simply has no one who compares to Limbaugh, Beck, Coulter, Malkin, O'Reilly, Palin, Hannity, and on and on and on.
Finally found the Jon Stewart quote from Monday night in print and think it's worth posting here:
"I do think it's important for us to watch our rhetoric. I do think it's a worthwhile goal not to conflate our political opponents with enemies, if for no other reason than to draw a better distinction between the manifestos of paranoid madmen and what passes for acceptable political and pundit-speak. It'd be really nice if the ramblings of crazy people didn't in any way resemble how we actually talk to each other on TV. Let's at least make troubled individuals easier to spot."
Well, maybe NOT the "party line," since I found this comment posted at TalkingAboutPolitics, written by a self-described conservative Republican, which I now quote:
"Friends, this U.S. Congresswoman is what's wrong with our country. I'm sorry for my NC 5th Congressional District readers here for what I'm about to say.
"Virginia Foxx is what's wrong with our country. Her first response to this tragedy in Arizona was to talk about the shooter...not about the victims. This is standard operating procedure for Ms. Foxx. I am not going to give the left any kind of kudos for using this incident to their advantage...which many on that side of the aisle have done...but I am just overwhelmed at how Virginia Foxx reacted to it and how this U.S. Congresswoman showed such a lack of empathy and caring for the families of the victims by doing nothing but making the very case the left is making on hateful, mean-spirited rhetorical presentations.
"Where I live used to be in the 5th congressional district. It was represented by Richard Burr at that time and now, this district is represented by Virginia Foxx and the only reason these people have succeeded in that area is because of the make-up of the voters. Now, don't get me wrong...I'm a dedicated conservative republican but I absolutely do not condone the spewing of hate and the negative rhetoric and the idiocy from our "representative" there (and I use that word lightly)...."
Henery,
Here is a link to the Jon Stewart clip you referenced.
I have to say, I have really been impressed with the change in Jon Stewart over the past year. He has become much more even-handed, thoughtful, and dare I say moderate in his views.
It's so hypocritical that my previous comments got censored. Typical though - I guess sometimes other points of view are just a distraction and of course, hate speech. Only the leftist loon dogs have it correct, the rest of us are just "un-American" and need to be censored. Typical hypocrisy from the left.
This blog is a joke. Willaimson only allows one side of thee argument ot be presented.
As has been pointed out numerous times on WataugaWatch, this is JW's blog! He can run it any way that he sees fit. There's no law that says he has to post every comment or that he has to present "both sides of the story." And obviously he didn't censor your comment since it's right there, in black and white. If you want to present your views, then create your own blog, and you get to make the rules! That's how it works.
Williqmson has censored many of my comments. He occasionally posts one alluding to that fact. He has finally achieved what he has always wanted on this site. A place where liberals go to mentally masturbate.
