A friendly (but firm) reader has pointed out that in a post down-column, we referred to the "reelection" bid of Wanda Howell for Clerk of Superior Court.
We were wrong ... morally, ethically, spiritually, physically, positively, absolutely, undeniably, and reliably wrong ... for Wanda Howell can't be reelected to an office she was never elected to in the first place. She was appointed Clerk of Superior Court by her old boss, The Honorable James L. Baker, Jr., Senior Resident Superior Court Judge, when former Clerk Glenn Hodges retired mid-term.

Please don't beat yourself up over it, J.W.
Wanda Howell's signs specifically state "Keep Wanda Howell". I find this highly deceptive, and I believe it to be an intentional tactic to trick people into believing, as you apparently did, that she had already been elected.
Although I will be voting for mostly Republicans in the elections this November (sadly, I might add), in this particular race, I will definitely be voting for Democrat Diane Deal.
Does Howell now HAVE the job? Stop picking at nits, Mike.
And your Republican vote is of no surprise. But your Deal vote will make you a swell guy, here!
Yes, that's it.
Deal for Advantage Deal
It doesn't matter what your views were, I think Wanda did a great job with her leadership while she was there. It has been the best in 20 years that I have seen, her appointment was a logical choice in keeping things going until an election could occur. So please show some respect for what was accomplished for the people of Watauga under her watch!!!
