Congress Is Such an Embarrassment

Some days we're just too exhausted to be outraged.

Some days we're more than a little embarrassed to be Americans.

Instead of showing even a smidgen of curiosity about, oh, the instigation of war and the no-bid-contract way of waging it, about torture and "extreme rendition," about spending us into a ditch while giving more and more away to the rich ... instead of doing anything remotely USEFUL, Congress gets all bungy over English as the official language of the United States.

And I thought my incredulity couldn't soar any higher!

Let's knock immigrants around a little more. Let's make them kneel and walk across the border on their knees. Let's have a national "Humiliate an Accent Day." Let's divide, segregate, stigmatize, label, ban, and restrict. Let's limit marriage to English-speaking heteros only, since otherwise how would anybody know he/she's being screwed?
