Let Religiosity Rain Down Like a Virus

Just pulled this off the AP wire, and can hardly believe my eyes, but Richard Vinroot is saying he's having a religious epiphany and won't call for a run-off between himself (in second place with 108,247 votes) and Patrick Ballantine, the younger Republican state senator (who edged Vinroot slightly with 109,552 votes).  "I have made a spiritual decision in this case. ... My decision is to not call for a runoff," the former Charlotte mayor said.  This amazing announcement came the same day Vinroot was also in the papers quoted calling Ballantine "Easley Lite" and vowing to fight, fight, fight for the nomination.  He was also making fund-raising calls all Tuesday night and into Wednesday, and maybe he heard something besides the voice of God: "Richard, it's time to hang it up."

Now, if only Virginia Foxx would let God have his way and listen to that Still Small Voice and not call for a run-off against front-runner Vernon Robinson, we'd all be jolly well better off, because we know that Virginia can't hold a candle to the blast furnace of Vernon's Christianity.
